AP and Dual-credit Course Offerings
AP and Dual-credit Course Offerings
Our curriculum meets and exceeds the state standards, and we are able to customize a student’s learning path at all levels, including high school. At the Academy, students may choose from our regular course offerings and from a multitude of Advanced Placement and Dual Credit courses.
Advanced Placement (AP)
We are able to offer 13 Advanced Placement classes in the areas of English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and World Language utilizing a program that allows students to work ahead if they so choose. Advanced Placement and Dual Credit classes are weighted in order to reward students for taking more challenging courses.
Dual Credit: APA offers a vast selection of dual credit opportunities for students of varying interests.
Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne has adjunct faculty teaching Dual Credit classes in US History and Economics in the building, so students can take college classes without leaving the building and for a fraction of the normal college cost of tuition. Their college transcript would then be either from Purdue University or Indiana University, both very reputable schools.
Purdue University Anderson has teamed up with Anderson Preparatory Academy to offer the APA Leadership Academy which consists of 2 Dual Credit classes in Technology Leadership and Innovation. APA is the first school in the state of Indiana to partner with Purdue University’s School of Technology to offer these classes in a high school, so students do not have to leave the building and receive a massive discount to take college classes. Purdue University Anderson also offers about a dozen classes on their campus to APA students.
Ball State University offers over 30 online classes to APA students in a variety of content areas.
Anderson University allows APA students access to a wealth of classes on their campus. APA students who choose this option can take the class at a fraction of the normal AU cost of tuition and are allowed to leave during the school day and attend class at AU. Those students are considered official AU students and can enjoy the perks of college life such as utilizing the campus library and working out in the state of the art Kardatzke Wellness Center, home of the Indianapolis Colts training camp.
Ivy Tech Community College has adjunct faculty teaching Dual Credit English. Students can take college English Composition during their senior year so that they can focus on their area of concentration in their freshman year. Ivy Tech also offers students of varying ability levels to take classes in many content areas and in different methods of delivery. Some APA students choose to take online classes through Ivy Tech, while others prefer the more traditional method of attending classes at Ivy Tech Anderson, which is a new and beautiful campus. This option affords students to attend classes at the Academy for part of the day, then leave to go to college for part of the day.
***Please note that students must meet APA’s and/or the post-secondary institution’s admissions criteria in order to participate in these opportunities. ***
