From Capt. Stottlemyer to APA families; Families, The last two days have been anything but normal for all of us. Thank you so much for your flexibility and understanding, especially during today's drop-off and pick-up. Week 2 is typically about settling into routines and building consistency. However, this week has reminded us that not everything will go as planned, and sometimes, we just have to be okay with that and focus on our circle of control. It's so reassuring to know that our staff and families can pivot on a moment's notice and work together when challenges come our way all while keeping safety at the forefront. This week has certainly tested that with the rain, flooding, and quick adjustments. While everyone was amazing today, here is a special thank you to our outdoor drop off and pick up team comprised of Coach Scott (not pictured), Lt. Main, Lt. Hoesman, and Lt Meeker, who braved the rain with smiles on their faces. They helped keep my attitude up and I know they helped keep yours (and your cadets’) up, too. Our staff is truly something I am grateful for. Stay safe tonight! Go Jets! Capt. Stottlemyer Principal

Our 2026 IREAD results are in!!

2025: 56.8%

2026: 78.0%

That is a 21.2 percentage point increase in one year!

Over the past two years, APA Elementary has been doing the hard work of getting better.

Our mantra, "All Systems Check," challenged us to look closely at how our school operated and identify the systems that needed to be stronger.

Our motto of, "Culture of Calm," focused us on consistency, routines, expectations, and creating classrooms where teachers can teach and cadets can learn.

And now, our slogan for the 2026-2027, "Intentionality," is pushing us even further, being purposeful about how we use instructional time, how we teach reading, how we intervene when cadets need additional support, how our teachers collaborate, and how so many parts of our school support teaching and learning.

We have made significant changes to our instructional model. We have strengthened our approach to foundational reading skills. We have changed schedules, regrouped cadets, expanded intervention, studied our data, supported our teachers, and continued adjusting when something was not working well enough. We have not gotten everything right, but we have stayed committed to authenticity, learning, improving, and doing what's best for our cadets. Every day.

None of those changes happened overnight. And neither did this growth.

Behind those numbers are cadets who became stronger readers, teachers who continued refining their practice, staff members who stepped in wherever they were needed, and families who supported the work at home.

This is not the end, but it is a big step forward and one worth pausing to celebrate. We still have more work ahead of us, and our goal is not simply a better percentage. It is for every APA Elementary cadet to become a strong, confident reader.

Our systems are stronger.

Our instruction is stronger.

Our cadets are stronger.

APA Elementary has momentum. We are going to keep building on it.

A huge thank you to Anderson City Utilities and the three utilities workers who saved our day. Two birds decided they wanted to make a ruckus this morning, taking out power to our 29th Street building. In to save the day was Zach Konkle, Shayne Brown, John Binda! Thank you gentlemen for working quickly and efficiently! #MakeYourDreamsTakeFlight (but not on a power line next time, please.)

Happy Civil Air Patrol High Altitude Balloon Challenge Day! APA is so honored to host this event annually and today was the day! Newly promoted Captain Dean hosted representatives from numerous CAP regions and members from CAP's National Headquarters this weekend. They were able to successfully launch three massive hydrogen-filled weather balloons, launching dozens of cadet decided experiments into our upper atmosphere. Before the school year begins, our Launch Pad team has been hard at work learning, collaborating, and experiencing the Reggio Emilia approach firsthand. Through hands-on training, reflection, and exploration, our teachers are preparing thoughtful environments and meaningful experiences that will inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning from day one. We're excited to welcome another year of young learners into a program where children are seen as capable, families are valued as partners, and learning grows through play, discovery, and relationships. If you're looking for a preschool that nurtures curiosity while building a strong foundation for kindergarten and beyond, we'd love to connect with your family. Learn more and complete our interest form at goapa.org/page/apa-launch-pad. Tuition is $150 per child, per week, and we proudly accept CCDF. We're excited for another year of watching our youngest learners take flight! #WhereEarlyLearningTakesFlight
